Today I mounted a new generator and battery! It wasn't a "perfect fit", but I managed to mount it "good enough". Later in the week I'll take the car to the car repair shop for the annual service, and I'll let them look at the generator mounting as well...
When everthing was in place I started the car and it jumped in to action on the first try without any troubble at all! :)
I think that's pretty good, since it hasn't been running since mid october last year...
I also tok the car out for a first run (only a short 20 minutes) and it was great, as usual! :)

The generator has left us.
I have had problems with the electricity for a while, but lately it escalated. The problem seems to be the generator, which delivers to much current! It should be around 13 V, but at times it was above 16 V!!! Not good for the electric system or the battery in the car...
I dismounted the generator and brought it to a generator shop in Stockholm. They established that it was broken in more than one way and I need a new one. The battery needs to be changed as well, due to too much current from the generator.
Since it is so late in the autumn I decided to not by a new generator now, but to wait until springtime and save as much money during the winter as I can.
Unfortunately it meant I couldn't bring my car to the Swedish Maserati Club autumn meeting, but I went in the back seat of another Maserati 222e instead. It was tight, since I'm 1.88 m tall, but fun! :)

The central locking broke down!
And just a week before I should go down to Malmö on my vacation! Luckily, since the wheather was crap at the time, my mechanic was working instead of having his vacation, so I could buy a new central locking motor for my left door. I did the fitting of the new motor myself and it went without problems! :-)

The strange noise was finnaly located! It was the drive shaft that was a bit "loose" and needed a new "support bearing holder"*. While the car was in the repair shop I also got the engine oil and oil filter changed.

2003-09-11

Today I was going to go for a trip with other la Famiglia members south of Stockholm, but one of my "cooler tubes" started to leak, so I had to park my car and take the passenger seat in a Porsche 911 cab! Not to bad that either, but the Maserati is mor fun... ;-)
I hade to change the tube and the strap to the power steering.

A few things needed the attention of a mechanic:
The steering wheel needed a new bearing, and the exhaust system needed some adjustment.
Under the engine there was a protective sheet of metal, that the previous owner had fitted there to protect the oil trough, that I thought made a noise from time to time. I tried to fit it better, but it didn't help. This noise will be mentioned more in the future!

The spring is here! :-)
A few things needed to be done before the season started:
The easiest thing was to change the front screen wipers, but the exhaust levels where bad so quite a few things had to be done. All sparking plugs had to be changed, just as the "spark cables", the "spark coil" and three "straps". This was a very expensive visit to the work shop!
(I don't know what things are called in english - if you know what I mean, please let me know!)

Installation of alarm
There was an old alarm, that didn't work in the car when I bought it. I thought it was better to have a modern alarm with anti-start function and so on, so I had one installed today.

2002-11-15

I fixed the rear bumper damage. It was covered by the ensurance, but I had to pay the excess.

I also got the following things done:
Changed the oil in the rear axle and engine, including the oil filter. I also changed two "things" in the front suspension that I don't know the english name of ("styrled" in swedish), since they where worn.

New battery
After standing for almost three years with very little use, the battery obviously needed to be changed. The dealer I bought the car from promised to pay for the new battery, but he never did and I didn't care to enforce it...

Disaster!!!
During my first 24 hours of owning this car someone drove in to it on the parking lot where my father lives!!!
The rear bumber got cracked in the corner... not that bad, but not a good start!

2002-10-25

I bought the car! This is a great day for me! This Maserati is my first car and I've dreamt of having my own car for many years!
As something of a car geek, I've wanted a car, but not just any car. It had to be special and I didn't want a car just for the sake of it. During my time at the university I didn't really need a car, and above all, I couldn't afford it. At least not a car that was any fun... ;-)
Anyway, when I got my first real job I started to look for a car. At first I was very into the Alfa Romeo 156 2.0, but when my girlfriend baught a 1995 SAAB 900 (she needs it to go to her horse every day), I thought that it would be unnecessary to have two cars in the same "segment". Thus the idea of a proper sports car!
After looking around I concluded that the Maserati 222e was a good choise. There where quite a few of this model for sale in Sweden, but I think I made a pretty good buy whith this car. I found it at a car dealer in Åhus in southern Sweden, which is not too far away from Malmö, where my father lives. I went there on the 25:th october 2002 and closed the deal. Since then I've been enjoying this car as much as I can! :-)
